This song has actually inspired me to make a screenplay because of how close I feel it is to me and how much I feel it relates to me. The “Little Lion Man” is the singer (whether that be Marcus Mumford or you/me). A man might think he is as brave as a lion and think he’s all big and tough, but when the situation comes, he is only a little man. That situation being talking to the woman he loves and braving the fact that he might fail to impress her enough for her to love him. Long story short: A boy has a crush and can’t bring himself to talk to the girl cause he is afraid of getting rejected, being judged/made-fun-of by those around him, or any other excuse he has. Anyway, let’s get into it:
Weep for yourself, my man, You’ll never be what is in your heart Weep little lion man, You’re not as brave as you were at the start
(Self-explanatory, but like I said, you are not as brave as you once thought you were. You are just a puny, cowardly man, which is the exact opposite of a lion.)
Rate yourself and rake yourself, Take all the courage you have left Wasted on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head
(Beat yourself up. Tell yourself after every chance you get how you blew it. How you might have blown it for both of your futures. You know you can provide a better future but you are hurting both of your future’s. Waste that courage that have you left on imagining what you can do next time without following through. You can’t follow through because of the unfound and unbased paranoia you have created).
But it was not your fault but mine And it was your heart on the line I really fucked it up this time Didn’t I, my dear? Didn’t I, my dear?
(It wasn’t your fault I didn’t talk to you, remember? I made up those problems in my head and used that as excuses to not talk to you. It was your heart and your future on the line and I blew it. We could have a future, but not if I don’t gather up courage to ignore those around me, their opinions and judgement, just so I can talk to you.)
Tremble for yourself, my man, You know that you have seen this all before
(Be afraid, you know you had these exact types of chances to talk to her and convince her to love you before.)
Tremble little lion man, You’ll never settle any of your scores
(Alas, of course you won’t do it)
Your grace is wasted in your face,
(you look better than you can perform)
Your boldness stands alone among the wreck Now learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck
(the type of boldness you have is unheard of. Everyone else can do the things you can’t do. Learn from your mother, ask her for advice, or kill yourself and your future.)
The more I wrote, the more I realized I am probably correct, but the best thing about music is that even though your interpretation could be on the dot, another could be the dot. So I will still count it as an interpretation. Like I said, this song has inspired me to make a screenplay. I hope to work with you one day for the film, cause I assure you, nothing is easier to write about than something you know and have gone through personally. This screenplay is happening, this movie is happening, even if it has to be self-funded. Looking forward to the day that I am thanking you on the Oscar stage for the inspiration. Good luck to you guys on your next album.May 12, 2017 at 11:54 am #8499

The song is about a man who knows he fucked up dealing with rejection, potential or realized.
