New album announcement

"We are more than excited to release Babel into the world. We had started writing new songs well before we got into the studio to record. At first, we peeled ourselves off the road quite reluctantly. We love playing live, obviously, but it had also become an important part of our creative process, we had been writing and rehearsing in soundchecks, and sort of ‘road-testing’ new songs on our very gracious audiences. But then we fell in love with recording again. The album started to come together, and with the help of Markus Dravs once more (and engineer Robin Baynton), we started to relish the challenge of making this album.  As a band, we’ve never been closer or more collaborative, all working to our strengths. And so we feel that this record is a natural progression that we’re proud of, and we cannot wait to take it out on the road."

Babel, the follow up to Mumford & Sons 2009 debut album Sigh No More, will be released on 24th September. The album is produced by Markus Dravs.

To arw2011 and mumf_anglophile, Merrion is referring to a song performed by Mumford & Sons on a live radio show, and it did not make it on the album. The song “Home” does make mention of the Holland Road, but the song with that title on Babel is not this song. And the Philip Phillips song is completely different.

  2. mumf_anglophile says:

Merrion, Home is on the album, it was just re-named “Holland Road”. It’s my favorite too! (:

  3. arw2011 says:

merrion, the song Home is by Phillip Phillips. If its the same song i’m thinking of. Sounds alot like M&S though. That’s why its such a good song.

  4. Merrion says:

:( pretty disappointed my favourite song home isn’t on the album! But apart from that I love it! Mumford and sons have got to be my favourite band, their music is inspiring

Thank you Mumford and your wonderful friends for coming to Dixon IL. I took my 13 year old son and had an amazing time. Thank you, as well, to the roadie who gave him Abigail Washburn’s guitar pick. To be there when my son got bitten by the live music bug is a life event few parents get to share. Jumping up and down and singing Start wearing purple with 15,000 other people can’t be expressed in 1’s and 0’s or grooves in vinyl. You all have become part of this family’s most cherished memories.

Loving the songs on the new album and even loving them more after seeing you live at Rock a Field.Just wish the enemy was on it.I heard it last year and have been playing it at least once a day ever since. If i have ever been addicted to a song it is the enemy.Maybe if you finish touring AUS and NZ you should think of coming to South Africa.I feel very lucky to have seen you live in Europe but it would be epic to see you in the country of braaivleis and getting drunk on 5 euro.Well thanx for the great music its much appreciated.
