The lyrics mean what you want them to mean, man. ✌️ ps – maybe check the album sleeve? Willis.October 12, 2016 at 9:10 am #7551
Keep checking back on the Dust & Thunder website – new times and dates will be constantly added.
I’m told from the people who know there may be some more UK additions soon.
I will certainly be keeping my fingers crossed.

This might be a weird request. I couldn’t figure out where to contact, or who to contact. I will tell the whole story to give background before presenting my request. Please be patient. Sorry. (-:
First, I was already a big fan before the following happened.
Back in 2011, I began a healing journey…as a 45 year-old man who had never dealt with the childhood sexual abuse he encountered at age 11. I live in Toronto, Ontario…and I heard about a place called Hope Springs, Ohio, that hosted MaleSurvivor.org’s Weekend Of Recovery for men who experienced the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. It was a weekend retreat designed to begin the healing process.
When I first walked into the main building where the retreat was being held, along with approximately 40 other survivors, the opening bars of TIMSHEL blew up the room. It BLASTED. It was a round building very much like a yert…only much bigger. The song was haunting and perfectly played into the emotions of the men entering the healing circle.
But you are not alone in this
And you are not alone in this
As brothers we will stand and we’ll hold your hand
Hold your hand…
By the time those lyrics hit us, we were all wrecks. I had already known the song, but after that day it has meant so much more to me and to the men that experienced that moment with me. The whole thing they attempt to teach survivors as a way to cope in the beginning is that they are not alone. The words cut deep and had a profound and lasting impact on our lives.
FAST FORWARD 5 years.
I’m a novelist. I have 5 published novels. I take part in an annual 72hr novel writing marathon called the Muskoka Novel Marathon. 40 writers get locked into one room for a long weekend in July in Huntsville, Ontario. We each attempt to write a novel. It’s a fundraiser to raise funds for literacy programs in the area. This year, we raised a record breaking $36,000.00.
It’s also a juried event. Judges read all the manuscripts and one is chosen for the Best Adult Novel Award and one is chosen for the Best Young Adult Novel Award. This year…I won Best Novel Award for the 5th time.
HERE COMES MY QUESTION…
I tentatively titled my novel I WILL TELL THE NIGHT. I’m not a copyright lawyer so I’m not sure if that is something I have to ask permission to use. I believe there is a word length before the permission kicks in, but I would not want to be wrong. The novel is going off to an agent in a couple of weeks, and I wanted to contact the band…not only to ask permission (even if it is not required) but also to thank them for the impact their words have had on me. I’m looking for their blessing to keep the title going forward. It’s a family saga that deals with abuse (though not of the sexual nature), separation, reunion and death. As I was writing it, one of my characters, out of nowhere pulled lyrics from TIMSHEL and put them right into her own mouth. The grandmother, telling her grandson to speak his truth, said, “Always tell your truth, Finn. If no one is listening, then tell it to no one. And if you can’t bear to do that, then tell it to the night.”
That’s when I decided upon my title. 38hours in…with no sleep and much creative madness.
That’s the first question…do I have your blessing to use the title. The second is…I would like to use another line as the epigraph at the beginning of my novel, as it also speaks to the novel’s theme.
“AND YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS” ~ Mumford & Sons
Thank you for your time, and forgive my rambling. I look forward to hearing from you. Again…thank you so much. That song at the beginning of my healing journey, was a monumental gift I will NEVER forget.

And, sorry…that was written to the band…and I didn’t change all the instances where it sounded like I was addressing you instead of the band. Sorry for the confusion there. Just hoping you’d be able to find a way to get the request on to them.
Thanks again. (-:
