Dear One and All,
Apologies again for the delay, but I hope it's been worth it, and that you've managed to enjoy some catch up reading as much as I have. The problem is I keep getting recommended things to read and now have a high stack of books in my cupboard on the tour bus that are just waiting jealously to be read.
But I have been preoccupied finishing off our next Book Club book, which, I am very happy to announce, is:
'The Outline of Sanity' by G.K. Chesterton.
It's changed my life quite a lot, it's fairly serious, it's somewhat political, and is my first dip into these rather dizzying and very terrifying waters. But it has gripped me and inspired me and said things I haven't known how to say but that I feel quite strongly, and so thought it was appropriate for the Book Club.
So the report is to follow, along with a bit of background as to why I chose this book (which is actually quite hard to get hold of), but you animals of the internet should have no trouble in the jungle if you're interested.
Adieu, et a bientot, homies.
Marcus
p.s. The soundtrack to this is most certainly, 'The State of Our Affairs' by Mt. Desolation (download it free from HERE), and 'Cocaine' by Old Crow Medecine Show.

Chesterton. I read Orthodoxy, it taught me to fall in love with the mysterious.

Quite the affinity towards dystopian literature, eh? The preference between 1984 and Brave New World could turn into quite the debate. Here's a clever comic though in favor of Huxley's vision of the world to come: http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/1736/200905amusingourselvest.png

Love the band, love the book club! What a great idea:) Downloaded Outline of Sanity and imagine my surprise when I realized the latest edition was published in my hometown (Norfolk, Va), I guess I could have gone down and picked up a copy. You should think about coming here the next time you're in the states! We have a place called the Norva that'd be perfect, unless you get too big for it:)

Based on the themes of the books chosen for Marcus' Book Club, as well as the themes of The Sons' lyrics, I have to recommend the novel "Restless Heart" by T. William Phillips. It takes place in 1840s America and follows an Oxford educated young man on the journey that ensues upon abandoning his aristocratic life in New York City to head West in search of freedom and self. Check it out at www.twilliamphillips.com or visit the "Restless Heart" facebook page for articles and reviews. Enjoy!

Marcus, just discovered your music, and it is truly amazing... And a band with a book club- that's pretty cool. And to jemappellemichelle- I just happened to read your post and had to say something- read all four of those this year w/ Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New world all in like the last two months. Funny... East of Eden is wonderful. Will look out for Outline of Sanity. Thanks for the music and inspiration.

You're incredible. If I didn't have a marriage proposal thought out for you already, I certainly would have thought of one after learning of your book club! :) You should consider adding Anna Karenina to the list.

I have to say, a band that presents a book club on it's website sincerely increases my interest in the band. Please keep this up. In celebration of such a rarity as a publicly well read head man of a musical marvel such as your band, I will read this book. It seems an appropriate topic to read considering my recent ravings about the freedoms that are slowing being stolen away from us here in America under the cloak of 'security'. Thank you for the suggestion.

I just joined this book club and look forward to reading some interesting works. I love your song lyrics and read somewhere that they are inspired by Steinbeck and Shakespeare (among others) who are two of my favorite authors. If you have a moment (and i doubt you do), I would be honored if you read some of my own lyrics, which are inspired by the some of the same authors: edgeofspring.wordpress.com
